| Welcome!
An all-volunteer non-profit organization,
the Fauna Sanctuary, is dedicated to raising funds for
and heightening awareness of
the plight of captive chimpanzees now
living in sanctuaries in North America.
Thank you so much for your generous donation.
sanctuary mission
Founded in 2002, the Fauna Sanctuary was
established to financially assist organizations that
provide refuge for the many captive chimpanzees who
have been used in biomedical research, entertainment
and were former pets.
The Fauna Sanctuary's two main goals are:
1 To assist in providing
enrichment and a quality of life, through an improved
physical environment, for chimpanzees currently living
in such sanctuaries.
2 To assist in helping those
organizations that will provide refuge for the many
existing captive chimpanzees in need of sanctuary.
The Fauna sanctuary, Inc. raises money
to provide funding for special projects and capital
campaigns that will achieve the above-mentioned goals.
In addition, it funds educational programs
about the lives of chimpanzees in captivity in North
America, their use in the entertainment business and
biomedical research and as pets. In large part, it supports
the work of the Fauna
Foundation located outside Montreal, Canada. The
Fauna Foundation was the first sanctuary in the world
to accept HIV-infected chimpanzees.
special
thanks to The Arcus Foundation
September
11, 2005 We wish to extend our sincere gratitude
to the Arcus Foundation for their continuing support
of the Fauna Foundation's extended family of chimpanzees.
Arcus has come through once again by providing us with
a $250,000 (US) grant, over a five (5) year period,
for operational purposes for the Fauna Foundation.
The grant, awarded to The Fauna Sanctuary
on behalf of the Fauna Foundation, is intended to offset
increased operational costs as a result of a proposed
increase in the number of animal caregivers, educational
outreach programs and fund-raising activities.
The mission of The Arcus Foundation's
Great Ape Fund is twofold; on the one hand it supports
conservation efforts that promote the survival of Great
Apes in the wild whilst also supporting sanctuaries
that offer shelter, safety and freedom from invasive
research and other forms of human exploitation to Great
Apes.
Through their dedication and commitment
to Great Apes, The Arcus Foundation continues to support,
both financially and morally, many Ape sanctuaries in
both North America and on the African continent.
Responsible for the rescue of nearly 300
chimpanzees from the notorious and now defunct laboratory
once known as the Coulston Foundation, their commitment
has ensured the future well being of these chimpanzees
many of who have been transferred to the Save the Chimps
150 acre multi-island sanctuary in Florida.
Their strong commitment also continues
in Africa where they are providing help to the many
Ape sanctuaries that are desperately in need of financial
support.
We wish to thank all at The Arcus Foundation
for their exemplary commitment and dedication. Their
help not only promotes the plight of all Apes, in both
captivity and the wild, but also helps to ensure the
continued existence of the few safe havens for the many
Apes that are desperately in need. Clearly, the Arcus
Foundation have not forgotten the many that have been
orphaned, mainly by the terrible bushmeat trade; the
many that have been abused and used in research; the
many that have been discarded, through sheer ignorance,
by their human "keepers" and the many that
have been abandoned after having been exploited for
the purpose of human entertainment and greed.
